I discovered yoga in my teens and had an on again off again relationship with yoga until I reached the age of 30. While I was studying for an Advanced Diploma of Holistic Counselling, yoga was explored as a healing modality. I realised then that there was so much more to yoga than stretching and flexibility and I found that I wanted to learn as much as possible about it. I completed an Advanced Diploma of Yoga Teaching at Australian Yoga Academy (AYA) at which time I discovered I was pregnant with my second child. After a challenging experience with my first labour and birth I decided to really educate and look after myself this time and commit to a regular prenatal yoga practice. After experiencing first hand the difference between a ‘yoga’ pregnancy and a non yoga pregnancy I realised just how big an impact yoga can make during this time. My yoga practice helped me feel strong, physically and mentally, it felt great to be part of a community of like minded women and it made my recovery so much quicker. It ignited a passion within me to learn as much as I could about this specialised area, so I could then go on to share this knowledge with expectant and new mothers. I went on to study 200 hours Registered Yoga Teacher (200RYT) training in Family Yoga with Samadhi Yoga Melbourne covering a range of ages and groups from pre and post natal, toddlers, right through to teens. I then completed 100 hours of Registered Yoga Pre and Postnatal Teacher training (100RYPT) with Bliss Baby Yoga in Byron Bay. I am also a qualified Vinyasa teacher after completing my Registered Yoga Teacher training (200RYT) at Moksha Academy of Yoga in Melbourne.
The perinatal period is an incredibly rewarding but also challenging time in a woman’s life and to have the support of a yoga practice to sustain us physically and emotionally is such a gift. Having experienced the benefits first hand of a prenatal and postnatal yoga practice makes me incredibly passionate about working in this area. It is an honour to be part of the journey with expecting and new mothers and supporting them throughout their pregnancy, birth and beyond.
I am incredibly excited and honoured to be part of the team here at GLOW and I love the philosophy of supporting families holistically.
