Infant massage has been around for a long time, especially amongst certain cultures. In Australia, learning how to massage your baby is growing in popularity at great speed, and there are many reasons for this.
Through having this special time with their child, parents are discovering that massage can help their child to settle, sleep better, reduce crying and relieve problems such as wind, colic, constipation, reflux and eczema.
It helps with parent-child bonding and may even help to reduce post-natal depression, anxiety and stress.
Infant massage provides a number of researched benefits for parents and children. Massage can help with:
• colic, wind, constipation and reflux
• eczema and other skin conditions
• soothing, settling and reducing crying time
• improved and increased sleep
• relaxation, stress and mood
• sinus or chest congestion
• coordination and muscle tone
• sensory issues
• parent-child bonding
• preterm infants
• children with additional needs
• getting to know your child’s body
• postnatal anxiety and depression
…and much more.
There is much research to support the many wonderful benefits of infant massage.
Infant massage classes at GLOW are run by Grace Miano, Certified Infant Massage Instructor and Nutritional Medicine Practitioner. Classes are run in small groups with the parent and child
You partner or other close caregiver can also attend at no charge and individual attention is provided so that everyone feels comfortable in the benefits provided to baby (and parent!). There are several massage routines that are taught, for both general and specific uses. Notes and oil are provided.
The ideal age range is from newborn until they are actively mobile, but even older infants and toddlers will benefit greatly. For sleeping, mobile or uninterested babies, dolls are available in class to use.
These small classes are also a wonderful way to get out of the house and meet other new parents in a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere, in a lovely and calm setting.
We look forward to seeing you soon to provide some lifelong skills and benefits for you and your child.
